Eligibility

Required Before Participation

  • Required Forms Instructions Step-by-step directions for completing the required RankOne online forms.
  • RankOne Forms Login Link Complete all required online forms. You CANNOT PARTICIPATE in athletics until all of the required paperwork is completed.
  • Physical/Medical History Forms You MUST have a Sports Physical completed by your doctor or other physician. You MUST upload this form to RankOne so Coach Dodds or Coach Frye can approve the form online. Physicals MUST be dated after 5/1/26.

2026-2027 Calendar

Athletics Parent Meeting

Location: Nelson Gym. Football parent meeting to follow. Attendance highly encouraged.

Football

Season begins Aug. 12. Championship week is Nov. 2-3.

Cross Country

Season begins the week of Oct. 26. District meet is Nov. 16.

Basketball

Season begins the week of Nov. 2. District tournament is Feb. 6.

Track & Field

Season begins the week of Feb. 1. District meet is March 10.

Soccer

Season begins the week of March 8. Regular season ends May 5.

Programs

Boys Sports

Nelson boys athletics includes football, cross country, basketball, track and field, and soccer. See Yearly Calendar for dates of each season.

Football

  • No tryout required, all are welcome
  • Players will use school equipment
  • Cleats are only equipment not provided
  • Parent Meeting August 6th
  • Practices before school
  • 8th Grade Games on Mondays
  • 7th Grade Games on Tuesdays

Cross Country

  • No tryout required to participate (may have to qualify for meets)
  • Only 14 runners at invitational meets per grade level
  • Only 10 runners per grade level at District meet
  • Practice AFTER school in afternoons
  • 4 meets total

Basketball

  • Must tryout to make the team
  • 3 days of tryouts
  • A, B, & C teams for each grade
  • Maximum of 35 players per grade
  • Practice before school
  • All games on Wednesdays

Track & Field

  • No tryout required to participate (have to qualify for meets)
  • Practice AFTER school in afternoons
  • 5 meets total
